[So Perry decided to go check out the Sprout Tower after finally making his way to Violet City and found himself charmed by a pretty cute Pokemon in there and decided to catch him.

And, well... after he read the Pokedex entry for the guy...]

Can people please tell me if the Pokedex entry for Phantump is just a legend or not?

Because if it's true why are people letting this poor thing fight?

It shouldn't be allowed.

[If you were able to see him, Perry is currently tearing up a little while hugging a slightly confused Phantump.

Yeah that Pokedex entry might have struck a chord with him.]

There's a few like that, who used to be people. I've got a Yamask who doesn't like fighting, so I don't have him do any.

It's up to your dead kid what they want to do, I guess.

Those aren't bad names.

Anyway, Heinz seems to like his name at least.

So people become Pokemon when they die in this world?

[That seems... weird, although not too surprising now that Perry thinks about it.]

So did I, but this is different.

[Mostly because he wasn't dead when he was training.]

But I can't imagine why anyone would be okay with letting one of these things fight.

Why do you want him to battle so much?

[Perry furrows his brows at Teddie. Well, that's a little better but he doesn't get why you're afraid of him. It's not like it's a horrifying monster or anything.

Meanwhile Heinz still seems a little upset from Teddie's outburst. In fact Heinz is not even making eye contact with Teddie right now, as if looking at him will trigger another outburst.]

Because in the end it's not your decision to make if you care about them so much.

They are as intelligent as humans. Let them make decisions for themselves, and be there to support them the best you can.

It's called being an adult.

If he wants to fight, why deny him the opportunity. If he doesn't, then he'll tell you.

It seems that way, but...if that is true, I think it's only possible with people native to this world.

The rest of us...can't really die.

At least I'm not alone in this.

I've heard Yamask has a similar story. What other Pokemon are like this anyway?

That's what's most important, I should think. I'm sure he's a very sweet Phantump, too.

Please call him "Heinz".

Yeah, I've heard about Yamask. Are they supposed to be cursed or do all people just become Yamasks when they die?

...I probably could have worded that better, but not exactly.

You can still die, but it isn't permanent. Like...I've been told that anyone who "dies" ends up just disappearing. Then, they reappear at a Pokemon Center and wake up unharmed and well again.

Hell if I know. Edmund doesn't even know and he's been a Yamask for ages probably. He thinks it might be that he felt he still had important things to do after he died.

Then you're being cruel to him.

Not taking his feelings into account just shows you're afraid of him making a choice you don't want for him.

That's not being an adult. That's being a scared child who can't handle not being in control like a dictator is.

Stop hiding behind some self-righteous reason and ask him.

And don't you dare try and skip out on it. If you actually care about their well-being, stop being their mother and be their equal instead.

[She's not going to answer if you give her a "I need to protect them for x reason" response.]

He is. A little clingy but it's kind of cute, I think.

[Teddie's so unused to seeing something so...spooky act this way, in fact the only time he's aware of Shadows acting like this was when he was- Oh. Oh no. What did he do? His heart immediately sinks the moment he recognizes the damages he's done and a lump begins to build up in this throat.

Without a moment to lose, Teddie drops to his hands and knees, throwing his pokemon off of him in the process. Oh wow, he didn't mean to- He never thought he'd- This is hard.]

Gah! I-I'm sorry, I-I wasn't thinking!

[Not that he normally does, but it would've been nice if he did this time.]

Like I said, wager some of them think it's playtime is all! Kittens and puppies in my world playfight all the time. Could be the same.

Lest you mean the Phantump line specifically?

...I would still be careful. I'm pretty sure that actually dying probably isn't any less pleasant, even though you'll come back.
