[So Perry decided to go check out the Sprout Tower after finally making his way to Violet City and found himself charmed by a pretty cute Pokemon in there and decided to catch him.

And, well... after he read the Pokedex entry for the guy...]

Can people please tell me if the Pokedex entry for Phantump is just a legend or not?

Because if it's true why are people letting this poor thing fight?

It shouldn't be allowed.

[If you were able to see him, Perry is currently tearing up a little while hugging a slightly confused Phantump.

Yeah that Pokedex entry might have struck a chord with him.]

You don't have to use your Pokémon to fight. In the end, it's up to our Pokémon, not matter how depressing their backstory is.

[Whereas Perry is advancing through his pokemon adventure, Teddie continues to dick around Violet City like the trash can diva that he is. A-After a hard day's work, of course. So it goes without saying that the moment he gets off, he's going to look for Perry. Guess who didn't read his text yet? Go ahead, guess.]

Hey, no way! Did you get another one already?! How the heck do you keep doing that, you're amazing!

[No fair, Perry almost has a full team. Maybe the last one can also be a dead child.]

But it's a child. Children shouldn't be allowed to battle.

[Well, dead ones anyway. Perry has less issue with battling with Pokemon that just hatched.]

[Teddie, three of them were eggs and he only had to buy one of them.

Perry just shrugs, luckily Teddie's annoyingness is distracting him from that terrible Pokedex entry. Honestly he just ran into the guy and they hit it off immediately.

Woah, so cool...

[Just shrugging like that, this guy must be a born natural. Teddie can't handle this swag, it's almost too much.]

Soooo are you gonna show me? I can bearly see it with your arms in the way!

[Speaking of pokemon, Teddie's have been clinging onto him this whole time. Cho sits in her usual spot on top of his shoulders while the other two have claimed a leg as their own. How Teddie managed to run up to Perry is anyone's guess, but he did it. Somehow.]

[The Phantump looks excited that someone seems interested in him and looks up at Perry to see if he can go up to him. Perry nods and lets go of little guy as he excitedly flies up to Teddie's face.

Hi, do want to be friends?]

Ask it and see what it says.

[Cho is the first one to greet the phantump, throwing a paw in the air and cheering a friendly greeting. Look at that cute little baby~ And ghost types are so rare, too. Perry's really lucky!

Teddie's reaction is the complete opposite. At first he doesn't do much of anything as he studies the creature. Something looks...familiar about it. It's almost as if it were a...]

I-IT'S A S-S-S-SHADOW!!

[But how?! Rise said there weren't any here, why would she lie about something like that?? Without even thinking, Teddie bends over and picks up Rosa, holding the tiny panda up between him and the floating stump child like some sort of shield. She loves to fight, let her handle it.

Rosa can only roll her eyes and mumble something that's probably "I'm so sorry." Her trainer is an embarrassment, she knows.]

[He answers this almost immediately.]

He just wants to be friends with me.

[Of course Perry also hasn't been in any battles since catching Heinz so it's not exactly the most fair judgement.]

[The Phantump looks shocked at the terrified reaction as he tears up a little, not even the apology seems to be helping much.

Perry immediately grabs him again as he gives Teddie a look that's a strange mix of anger and concern. He hates you for being scared off the poor thing but doesn't know why you're afraid of shadows of all things.]

I don't think I've heard of a Phantump before...

Is its entry really so very bad?

[Yeah Perry is just going to text the entry he saw.]

"According to old tales, these Pokemon are stumps possessed by the spirits of children who died while lost in the forest."

W-What?! But that's horrible!

Exactly. I don't understand how this poor thing would be allowed to fight if that entry is true.

It's too cruel for him.

I should say so! But I think it's very much possible to go without fighting, here. I certainly don't, and my Pokemon don't seem any the worse for it, really.

That's good.

I've been training my other Pokemon but I think I'm just going to give this guy company.

Likely that's for the best. And what is his name, may I ask?

Heinz.

It was an impulse.

[He adds as if anyone here would know the significance of the name "Heinz" to Perry.]

That's how I name most of mine, too. With whatever seems to fit them best, from looking at them. It's how I've ended up with ones like Kitty and Ella and even Gawain.

It seems like a lot of ghost type Pokemon have Pokedex entries that suggest something like that about them. I couldn't tell you for sure if it's true or not, but...

[He almost says "I have a friend who seems to think so", but he doesn't want to be asked to explain why. That's Maka's story to tell, not his.]

I have a Pokemon with me that is the same way, Yamask. It...was once human at one point, apparently. The entry even says that it still has the memories of its past life.

But what if they want to? I did plenty of fighting as a kid, even if it was mostly sparring.

Plus, this world lets ten year olds go off on journeys on their own. Not saying you should force them, but it's complicated.

[Teddie seems genuinely frightened, taking up shutting his eyes tight and continuing to hold Rosa up as the world's most adorable shield as he prepares for the worst, his legs trembling. In fact, it's enough to cause his newest addition, Tomomi, to finally lose her grip on her leg of choice and...flop to the ground. Whoops~

Cho can't help but be concerned, patting her trainer on the head in hopes to calm him down. And it works! ...Sort of. It grabs his attention at least, and Teddie snaps out of it and peeks over his fuzzy protector. It's...not attacking him! Which is...good. Good, no attacking right now. No one needs to lose a life or anything.

Still unsure, Teddie attempts to do damage control.]

I-I mean...OH! What a little cutie! With its...red eyes and...squiggly body...

Seems like a common thing with ghost Pokemon. Or certain types, anyway.

To be honest, it kind of freaks me out.
